黄石博士是中南大学医学遗传学国家重点实验室教授。

遗传学学士,复旦大学生物系遗传学专业, 1979-1983;

他在解放军军事医学科学院长大,他的父亲是那里的教授。他童年的爱好开始是运动,后来是纯粹艺术。由于1978年报考中央美术学院失利,他的兴趣转向了自然科学。他1979至1983年在复旦大学获得遗传学学士。他是CUSBEA第三期(1984)公派出国留学生,于1988年获得加利福尼亚大学戴维斯分校博士学位。随后在加利福尼亚大学-圣地亚哥分校完成博士后工作,并于1992年被任命为美国圣地亚哥Burnham Institute 助理教授(assistant professor),1998年升为副教授(associate professor)。2009年回国后至今担任中南大学教授。
主要贡献
早年对艺术的研习培养了他的审美观,使他在自然科学研究中,更关注能发挥创造性的课题。黄石教授的实验室首先发现了RIZ肿瘤基因和PRDM家族组蛋白甲基转移酶,并确定了它通过表观遗传学调节在高肉低蔬菜饮食(西方式饮食)增加癌症患病风险中的作用。从2003年起,黄石教授开始了他对遗传和表观遗传在生物复杂性进化中相互关系的原创性研究。他在世界上首次提出了种内变异度上限理论(maximum genetic diversity theory),这一理论解决了主流进化理论不能解释分子进化中的遗传等距离现象以及不能解释复杂疾病的遗传机制这些重要问题。
