美洲特有的鸣禽

反舌鸟，是美洲特有的鸣禽，因为善于鸣叫而出名。反舌鸟长约30厘米，上身灰褐，胸腹灰白色，黑嘴、长尾巴。飞翔时羽翼散开，像把扇子。反舌鸟筑巢在矮树丛中，巢用树枝禾本科杂草做成，里面垫上柔软的草和羽毛。每次产蛋4~5枚，色浅蓝，满布棕色斑点，14天早成雏就能自由活动。每逢敌害来侵犯，反舌鸟为保护幼鸟常常展翅搏斗，直到把对方啄死才罢休。除了反舌鸟本身的鸣叫，它还善于模仿动物或机械发出的声音，像狗吠、猫叫、磨盘的咕噜声、车轴的咿呀声等，因此美洲原住民叫它“四百个舌头”的鸟。
